Wirraway Morgan Sport Horses
Wirraway Promotional Award.

In the early days of the MHAA when you could count the number of purebred morgans in Australia using your fingers and toes, the board got together to brainstorm ideas on how to better promote this wonderful breed.

In those early days, because of the few numbers, morgans were more valuable breeding than being ridden and campaigned. There was only one gelding back then, Mt Tawonga Keiwa, a courageous gorgeous boy owned by Judi Anderson, but he couldn’t carry the burden of promoting the breed himself – even though he was doing a sterling job trying to.

The idea of a promotional award was suggested to acknowledge outstanding presentation and performance in open competition. I offered to sponsor the award annually. The board nominated a committee to develop an outline to encourage owners to take their morgans out into the public eye and to raise some much needed funds for the fledgling association.

The committee was generous in their decision in naming the award after my stud, in appreciation of my ongoing sponsorship.

These days entry is free and registration forms and score cards are available for download from the MHAA website. www.morganhorse.com.au under the “The Association” menu item.

Many of the horses named on the perpetual trophy are horses that will always hold their place in Australian Morgan History. The honour of appearing along side these exceptional horses is hotly contested each year.

It is with immense pleasure that I continue to do my bit in assisting with the promotion of our lovely morgan.
