Wirraway Morgan Sport Horses
He's Here!

He’s arrived! Finally! I doubt if MaryAnn and I could have taken much more of this waiting.

Brikki VP turned out to be a “HE”! and what a gorgeous ‘He’, he is. He arrived at the very civilised time of 2:45pm on 24th March, 2008 weighing in at 103lbs. He is yet to be named – we need time to think of something auspicious enough for such a unique individual.

Yes, he’s arrived and thanks to the ever vigilant MaryAnn and Barb, without a hitch. As evident in these photos – only an hour or two old – he’s gorgeous.

Some of MaryAnn’s comments.....

My first email from MaryAnn (this distance is going to kill me) - after a frantic call on my way to work this morning to say 'she' was a 'he' and HE was stunning.

"Meet your boy! Don't know if he's still "Brikki" or if you'll have another name for him, so right now I'm just calling him Junior. He is a bay colt, born at 2:45pm Monday, March 24, 2008 (USA Date/Time). We weighed him in at 103 lbs. He's a tall boy, lots of leg, great bone, love his shoulder. Very bright, inquisitive, friendly as can be. Rikki is being a super mom. He's nursed fine, passed meconium and then some, had an enema anyway on vets recommendation but had already been passing stool with no problem. Smart fella too, learned to be held without fighting, followed Rik in from pasture with me just cradling him front and rear, has had a halter on and off and learned to not fuss about having it taken off, he's a bright one!

More pix tomorrow I'm sure. He's already tried his legs out at a canter too btw!"

Day One

Fox Brush Custom Design – Rikki (Funquest Erics x Bowood Elusiv Dream), my elusive dream come true.

Erick and Dream Equitana 1998MaryAnn Schafer gave me the opportunity of leasing Rikki for a foal due in March 2008 and I’ll forever be in her debt. Her generosity and faith in me humble me. Rikki is the result of crossing two Morgan Sport Horse Award winners. This prestigious award is only earned by Morgans that achieve bronze medallions, competing in open company across five separate disciplines. There are only 8 horses in history that have achieved this award.

Funquest Erick is undeniably one of the breeds premium sport horse sires and has earned the right to be entered into the Blue Preferred American Warmblood Stud Book. He is the first Morgan to be branded as an American Warmblood with test scores of 83%. His progeny excel in all disciplines.

Rikki’s Dam, Bowood Elusiv Dream was bred, owned and ridden by MaryAnn Schafer. Dream earned her Sport Horse Award in 1995 under extreme conditions. She recommenced her campaign soon after recovering from a fracture to the tip of her coffin bone. Dream has been the mount for the disabled and is a true ambassador for the Morgan breed… sane, sound and courageous.

When MaryAnn offered Rikki to me on a breeding lease, I jumped at the chance! Who wouldn’t. She is the combination of two of my very own morgan hero/heroines. If Elusiv Dream was MaryAnn’s dream come true, then MaryAnn’s offer to me was mine.

PKR Primavera BrioI already knew which stallion I wanted to cover Rikki. PKR Primavera Brio, owned by John and Joyce Hutchenson of Gab Creek Morgan Farm, son of the famous Primavera Valdez. Valdez was the first Morgan stallion to hold a Stallion Certificate as an Honour Roll Stallion in the National Reining Horse Association Sire and Dam Program and his progeny are competing all over the world. He is the only Morgan stallion with his very own fan club and chat list on yahoo – Friend of Valdez is a live tribute to this famous stallion.

Valdez covered a mare named Rose Hill LaPappillon. Reputed to (in the respected opinion of Valdez’s owner Carol Simpson) be the best mare Valdez covered. Producing Primavera Brio, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his famous sire. La Pappillon

This foal, Brikki VP, will bring some pretty special history and heritage down under to Australia with the blood of Dream, Erick and Valdez coursing through her (his?) veins! Rikki Tiki Tavi like her Mama Dream, is an accomplished CDE and CTR/ LD Endurance mare, and most importantly is a great friend and pleasure trail horse to MaryAnn.

Now we wait impatiently for the result of this remarkable blend of Morgan sport horse legends. Brikki VP, so named ‘B’ for Brio, Rikki for her dam and VP – Voodoo Princess, because through the generosity of wonderful people magic really does happen. Thankyou MaryAnn and John and Joyce.

11th April, 2007
Day of reckoning. John had done his bit, he got Brio's semen to MaryAnn in time. Rikki, Barb, MaryAnn and I all wore pink... thought pink... nothing but pink on the day. We were unsuccessful at convincing John to join us though. We really wanted MaryAnn to be able to continue her mare line through Brikki VP.

“To "Set the Mood" we had a photo collage of Brio on the floor in front of Rikki as the little swimmers were making their "enterence"! Note the pink halter please! <G>” email message from MaryAnn. MaryAnn even provided Rikki with an 'after' cigarette. Not sure what the staff at the breeding centre were thinking!

Now for the waiting.... waiting... waiting....
